Allocation Analyst

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Allocation Analyst is responsible for optimizing the initial and subsequent distribution of product to stores for assigned category of merchandise. The analyst will partner closely with Merchant and Planning business partners to translate product strategy, ensure equitable inventory allocations and help develop allocation plans that optimize the financial results for their assigned merchandise categories.


  • Identify opportunities for door expansion or reduction for assigned classifications through the eligibility process
  • Create store grading by category to support assortment planning and allocation strategies
  • Develop size scales based upon analysis of size selling to maximize sales and reduce markdowns
  • Produce models by grade and size for buying and allocating core product to maintain planned inventory levels
  • Layout the allocation strategy for each category prior to the start of a season and present to the team using the store grading, assortment plan and current trends.
  • Execute initial allocations following the allocation strategy in a timely manner
  • Use existing and ad hoc reporting to analyze trends and identify opportunities
  • Complete weekly selling reports and recap key points to cross-functional team
  • Fill back product to sales on a weekly basis to maximize sales using appropriate variables in the allocation system as well as outside reporting and analysis
  • Make recommendations to move inventory between retail and direct based on needs of the business


  • Critical relationships and partnerships to be maintained with Buying, Planning, Store Operations, Replenishment and Marketing. Particular emphasis will be placed on building and maintaining relationship with merchandise team, including respective replenishment
  • Partner with peers to ensure consistency of information, share best practices and develop systems knowledge


  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Prior allocation experience and working knowledge of merchandise allocations systems desired
  • Experience in a specialty retail environment would be an asset


  • Proven analytical skills and a strong understanding of retail math concepts
  • Ability to work effectively in team environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously & prioritize work in a fast paced environment
  • Must be able to analyze and make recommendations on findings
  • PC skills: MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Experience with JDA Allocation or other allocation and replenishment systems a plus
  • Experience with MicroStrategy or other data warehouse systems a plus
